Read our full Cameo 4 review post, and see the Explore 3 review post here.Want more detailed information on these machines? So whilst I'm a fan of Cricut, in this case to me the clear winner is the Cameo 4. So a question on my mind is – how long till the Cameo 5 will be released? But there is no answer to that question yet!ĭespite the Cameo 4 being an older model in comparison to the newer Explore 3, it can more types of materials for the same price as the Explore 3. Now it is important to keep in mind that the Cameo 4 was released way back in September 2019. This means that the Cricut Explore 3 (the newer machine) sells for the same price as the Cameo 4. The recommended retail price for the Explore 3 is $299.99, the same price as the Cameo 4. (This means you don't have to spend extra money to purchase the roll feeder as with the Explore 3).Ĭheck the price of the Cameo 4 on Amazon here. What is also fantastic about the Cameo 4 is that it comes with a built-in Crosscutter and built-in Roll Feeder. You can use Foil Quill tips and the Amy Chomas etching and engraving tips. You also do have the option of extending the Cameo 4's capabilities by using third-party tools. And you can cut material with the Rotary Blade – the Explore 3 can't manage either of those materials. Whilst it seems that the Cameo 4 is more limited in what it can do, you have to remember that it can cut a much larger variety of materials.įor example, you can cut things like thick leather, basswood, and balsa wood with the Kraft blade. Punch Tool (to make weeding a heck of a lot easier).Kraft Blade (to cut thicker materials – up to 3mm thick).Auto Blade (to cut most standard materials). You will only receive the Auto Blade, ratchet tool, and four tool adapters in your box.Ī list of compatible tools and blades includes: (You can use third-party tools to foil, etch and engrave). It includes the designs together with step-by-step instructions. What I like about Cricut Design Space is that they have heaps of gorgeous projects that beginners can use. The free version is mostly geared towards crafters who like to create their own designs from scratch or for those who which to purchase their SVG files elsewhere, however, there is an option for a Cricut Access membership that includes loads of premade designs, projects, and fonts. You can also use some aspects of Cricut's Design Space for free. I find that the Cricut Design Space Software is easier to use in comparison to Silhouette's design software (however, it is more limiting if you are an advanced user). It will even prompt you to change over blades if you have the wrong one inserted. So all you have to do once you have your design is simply to tell it what material you want to cut and it will figure out how much pressure to use. The machine does most of the calculations for you. I found that the Explore 3 machine itself is user-friendly and I think it is perfect for beginners. Let's have a more detailed look at how they compare. Okay, now that we know that the Cameo 4 is way stronger (5kg force instead of 350g) than the Explore 3, but is that reason enough to choose the Cameo 4?
